YSL All Hours Review

October 4, 2017

YSL released a new foundation for the fall of 2017 and I was lucky enough to try it courtesy of Influenster.

The All Hour Foundation (0.5 oz) is a full coverage foundation and it retails for $58 at Sephora. The foundation has octinoxate sunscreen SPF 20, claims up to 24 hour wear flawless matte coverage, oil free, and transfer proof!
I've always loved full coverage foundation . Many of you know my love for KVD's Lock It Tattoo Foundation is eternal so I was super excited to try this foundation. Plus can we have a moment for YSL beauty packaging? What a beautiful bottle and I love the stripe!

The YSL All Hours Foundation comes in 22 shades which is slightly overwhelming. In the Influenster survey they asked for your Sephora + Pantone Color IQ which to be honest I haven't looked at in years but after lots of deliberation I finally found that I am 3Y06 which is my Urban Decay shade. However I didn't use that Color IQ number when I did the survey relying on some number from 2014... So I ended up receiving the shade Warm Honey which was quite too tan for me. I wanted a shade I could wear in the winter and spring so I bought Warm Caramel a light/medium shade with a golden undertone. This shade worked much better.  I do think my skin is a little too tan for Warm Caramel and not tan enough for Warm Honey so honestly if I had the money to drop on another $58 bottle of this I'd buy Warm Almond so I could work with all three foundations but c'est la vie. I think if you're hesitant on your shade go with a shade that you can bronze up and you'll be fine. I just got the Shade and Light Contour Palette and I've been using the darkest contour color subconscious.
The formula of AHF is great, a little cakey for my taste, but still beautiful. Plus hello, transfer proof! Not boyfriend proof though a view pecks on the cheek and like any foundation, comes right off. The coverage is great - a couple half pumps and you're good. In terms of coverage its on the lower end of high coverage foundation.

So would I repurchase another bottle? Unfortunately I would say no. This foundation is beautiful and has great coverage but truthfully I don't wear high coverage foundation on a daily basis anymore and hardly wear it on the weekends either so I couldn't imagine buying another shade.

Additionally I don't see much of a difference between this formula and another full coverage foundation like KVD's Lock-It minus the fact that one foundation has 0.84 oz (compared to 1 oz) and a $20 higher price tag (YSL AHF). However, I do like this foundation and think its super beautiful just wish the price tag wasn't so high. I would be inclined to buy a brush from YSL for this foundation.

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. All opinions are my own.

  1. I'm a huge fan of YSL's Touche Eclat Foundation, but I've always been a little weary of full coverage formulas since I don't find them very practical for daily use. It does sound great for someone who needs and likes high coverage foundations though!

  7. I totally see what you mean here; I also don't wear full coverage on a day-to-day basis, but this could be a great option for those people who do. Thanks for the honesty xx
