December Sephora Play 2017 Review

January 31, 2018

Hi friends! Another month late but here's this months Sephora Play review, plus I thought I'd round up my faves from Sephora Play this past year.
It has been challenging to review these boxes in a timely fashion, but let's get real, do you like these reviews? I know beauty box reviews can get a little repetitive so I want your thoughts on how I can shake up these posts a little more. I really want to do some YouTube tutorials with these products so I can show my looks, but with my frenemy ACCTG 701, I cannot make any promises. I could do some IG Live content or Facebook live content?!

This month's lineup was a good mix of hair, skin, fragrance, and makeup. I always love a new moisturizer. I've also been wanting to try a MAKE UP FOREVER lipstick and the BTS mascara by Too Faced.
DIOR Miss Dior – The New Eau de Parfum
This perfume is one of my favorites not because of the scent but because I adore Natalie Portman in the ad campaigns (not the "What would you do for love one," but everything else). The campaign is so pretty, and the packaging of the bottle is darling. This fragrance is a warm floral. It has notes of bergamot, grasse rose, and rosewood. It doesn't mix with my oils very well so there isn't anything super noticeable to me, but it does smell nice initially. The florals are not too overwhelming, and I prefer a warm floral to a normal floral perfume any day.
MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Rouge Lipstick in c211
I've really never tried many of MAKE UP FOREVER lipsticks so I was excited to try this lipstick. Its a medium dark rosy mauve with warm undertones and satin finish. It reminds me somewhat of Lovecraft by Kat Von D but I can't check the swatches on Temptalia. Overall its a very pretty lipstick with 5 hour wear. I've been pairing this lipstick with a light blue top I found at Target which will be here on the blog pretty soon.
Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Shadow Duo in Golden Hour
Smashbox palettes definitely intrigue me. I'd been wanting to try the Smashbox Cover Shot Ablaze for what seems like forever now, but I really don't need more palettes. I loved when Sephora Play sent a mini of the Smashbox Full Exposure palette back in December '15. This palette is a little different, both colors are shimmers which I really haven't been using much of in general. Although these colors are a nice addition with my Too Faced Just Peachy Matte Palettes. They really enhance the look. I should've brought them on my trip to DC R.I.P. I think I'll wear the peachier color alone tomorrow, maybe I'll mix some of my Just Peachy Mattes into it!
TOO FACED Better Than Sex Mascara
Ok I definitely get the hype behind this mascara. I've always liked Too Faced's mascaras. This mascara has an amazing brush and even more amazing formula! If I ever decided to be monogamous with mascaras this one would be it. Plus Erika Giradi from the RHOBH is in the ad campaign for this, how great is that?!
BUMBLE AND BUMBLE Thickening Volume Hairspray
I have mixed feelings about Bumble and Bumble, but I'm always for thickening products because my hair is so damn thin. I have so many regrets from scene hair let me tell you. I used this spray before I blowdryed my hair for a shoot, and my hair instantly felt thicker, fuller, and noticeably was more volumized. Although I think Bumble products are 75% packaging, I have found products that work for me. I'd definitely consider adding this one to my regular hair routine.
I am a fan of IT Cosmetics so I was excited to try some of their moisturizer. The packaging of this cream is super dramatic. I wish it just had a box, but it all gets recycled so what can you do. I didn't notice anything amazing about this super cream. For some reason my skin never felt super moisturized, just meh. I felt like I kept applying more and more to my face especially at night for hydration but it just wasn't there with this cream. If anything meh moisturizers are actually quite nice from Sephora Play just because it helps me gauge which products are working and which products aren't.
My 2017 Sephora Play favorites consist of:

Well folks here's the last Sephora Play Reviews of 2017! I actually have January's all shot and ready so I hope that I can get it out to you sooner rather than later. P.S. how cute is this Swell bottle? I got mine for $9 on sale at Target. The print on the bottle is an archived print from Liberty of London from 1994 and is named Edenham Coral. The fabric its inspired by is a little brighter, but I much prefer this updated take on the print. Hope everyone is ready for a beautiful February.

A very big thanks to my friend Mallory @malloryxtaylor for making time to take these pictures with me and get some coffee. Move back to KC please!

  5. I love when boxes have a variety of products, I am so sick of those who offer the same 'hand cream, moisturising cream, serum' etc, there are so many products out there, is it so difficult to choose different products to satisfy customers? Anyways, this is a great selection of products :)
