Get Your Kicks

January 5, 2018

Converse and I go way back. To the days where I was kicking a tetherball on the black top and watching the Ramones' music videos on Yahoo Video. So when Collectively and Converse reached out to be apart of the #foreverchuck program I was excited!
In some ways I feel as if I've grown up with Converse. The shoes were always there for me when I needed to express who I wanted to be. I feel nostalgic thinking about some of my old pairs. From pink and black high tops, neon pink extra high foldable Converse, or even my black knee high Converse boots. My parents wouldn't let me buy a  pair, so my best friend Danielle would let me wear hers to middle school during the day, and I would have to give them back to her before school was over. I almost missed the bus once running to give them to her at play practice.
Nevertheless, I've always loved that as a shoe Converse are basically fashion freedom. There is no wrong way to wear this all-American classic. Wear them like Kurt Cobain scribbled with words all over, in a timeless way with lovely shirt dresses like Michelle Obama, or like Alexa Chung in a nailing street style kind of fashion.
Today my Converse have been well travelled. From my middle school halls to Times Square to the floors of my Starbucks, and today to the Kauffman with my friend Brenna.
I wanted to represent where I am now in terms of style with these Converse. Although I'm still leaving my style defined as "unusual" there's always room in my closet and style for a pair of Converse with lots of space for imaginative styling.
To be honest I haven't worn Converse in years. I have a very-loved classic black low-top pair I used to wear, but since then I haven't worn them in ages. So I wanted to make sure that I would be incorporating Converse into my closet in a new and relevant way.
I opted for the classic black pair (truly timeless) and decided to pair them with this really pretty black and white short dress from H&M. I think I'll also try out my Converse and my Anthro jumpsuit, or maybe with coated jeans and a sweater. I think I'll try tapping into my inner Jenna Lyons. The sky is the limit with Converse. I've always appreciated that they're a shoe that can be worn on any occasion.

    1. Not totally crazy Naya although I'm surprised. I feel like Converse are just such a part of growing up. In my childhood everyone went through a skate phase and Converse or some kind of skate shoe was in that life. They definitely endure. I need to throw my beaten up pair in the wash again!

  11. I love Converse and dresses - something I wear often in spring and autumn (too hot here in Brisbane's summer for socks and closed in shoes, haha!). Like you, I think that they are a classic pair that will always look good! :)

Hope that the first week of 2018 went well for you and that this week is off to a good start too!

  14. That dress is so cute on you! I love the little patch, which adds a slight hint of playfulness to the chic and classic pattern. I've never owned a pair of Converse, would you believe that?! I was more into Jordan's and Huarache sneakers when I used to wear sneakers more regularly. I need to finally try a pair, perhaps in the black and white like you're wearing because they'd look cute with so many different pieces and looks. Thanks for sharing, beauty, and I hope you're having a great start to your week so far!

  20. Converse is indeed, such a classic. It may not come with all the bells and whistles of modern rubber shoes, but it's comfortable, and always been reliable. They can last for years, and since they're so simple, they can go well with almost any outfit you wish. Even for an edgy dress like you have here dear. Your photos are so on-point! Great job!
