The Denim Skirt Comes Out of Retirement

August 10, 2018

Many KC-itians are familiar with Baldwin! Our hometown brand that has been changing the denim game. I had been looking for the perfect Baldwin piece to add to my collection and I think I found it. The Kendall. This long denim maxi skirt made specifically for Kendall Jenner from Anna Wintour. When I first saw this skirt I wasn't sure how to feel about it. Of course there is very little that KJ can't pull off. However, I have nightmares about wearing denim skirts from middle school and I think embarrassingly once or twice in high school. Nevertheless, the denim skirt is coming out of retirement for me and is ready to work! Literally I wear this skirt to work on casual Fridays. I am wearing a size 24 for reference.
I always had this skirt in the back of my mind wondering how much it would end up for on eBay a few years later since it retailed for $198 (definitely not in my budget). On a restless night when I should've been unwinding from finance/econ homework I stumbled on this baby for $12?! For real friends eBay style is the BEST. Took this skirt to the dry cleaner and brand new!
When I first bought this skirt I was pretty nervous. I hadn't thought about this trend and how it would work on my body type. I typically don't buy things on a whim unless I have had them on a radar for a long time which is why I think it was so easy to buy this skirt and the fact that it was $12.
I had asked a couple of my best friends what they thought about this skirt and although I had my regards they were both super encouraging and just told me to try it! I'm so glad that I did. Especially as I see the midi/maxi denim skirt trend coming back in style.
I am excited to see how I can style this skirt for fall.  Here is one way that I think is pretty versatile for all sizes.

I also think a chunky sweater and some birkenstocks for the fall seem very Olsen twins to me. Which is everything I strive to be. Every once in awhile I think its good to buy clothes that challenge you out of your comfort zone and to remix with your existing closet. I think this skirt does a pretty good job of that.
Keeping my makeup simple here ABH's Modern Renaissance can never go wrong in my heart.
So what do you think friends? Am I crazy for buying a skirt I didn't know that I would like/or would fit? Would you try the maxi denim skirt trend in any capacity?
