The 3 Year Dress

July 7, 2020

A few years ago I found what might be my favorite dress. You might remember it from this post. The dress also came in white and yellow. I managed to snag it in white, but was unable to find the yellow in my size until recently. I was scouring my eBay saved searches and this dress showed up in my size for $35 (this dress originally retailed for $138).
I have wanted a yellow dress to add to my collection for so long. I was unable to buy anything before because my mind always came back to this dress. I'm so glad that I waited for this piece, it was the perfect purchase and such a win. Its amazing how fulfilling it feels to buy something you've wanted for a long time rather than just something that fills the void. My number one piece of fashion advice is to hold out for great pieces. Also, this dress was my first purchase of 2020 and a great start to my 20 in 2020 dressing challenge.
Yellow is such an uplifting color! If you've ever wanted to wear it but have felt intimidated here are my tips:

For fair skin tones try a printed pastel yellow. Specifically a pastel yellow dress with a gingham or floral print. A print can counter balance any starkness. Check out this look Kate Mara wore for inspo.

Medium or tan skin tones should try wearing warm or golden yellows. Think Meghan Markle.

Dark complexions should try a bright yellow think Jodie Turner-Smith or Lupita Nyon'go. Also a yellow that's on the verge of chartreuse looks great too. Angela Bassett nailed this look.
I have been wanting a yellow dress to add to my rainbow dress collection for sometime now and I'm so glad I waited for this dress! Of course its another wrap dress. Hey, I like what I like, ok?!

I paired this dress with a pair of Burberry espadrilles I found at a thrift store and a bag I bought from a vintage seller in Kansas City. Plus a handful of peonies from our garden. I think this dress could work with several accessory/shoe combos!
Absolutely in love with this bag still! Vintage purses are my kryptonite.

Alexa play My Heart Will Go On. I just love being around flowers they make me so happy! I can't believe it's already July. Our peonies and tiger lilies are long gone. Now we have daylilies blooming. I've never felt so in touch with our garden until lately. It's strange to still spend so much time at home, but watching our flowers change and bloom everyday feels like a gift. Trying to keep life in perspective these days. What have you been up to?

Wearing: Dress - J. Crew (long gone, but similar), shoes - Burberry (sold out, but similar), bag - vintage (similar)

I'm also really impressed this is your first fashion purchase this year - I've not been buying a lot especially over iso but I have bought a few things, and I shopped big in the January sales as always, haha!

Yellow can be a tricky color to wear, so knowing what shades work best for one's skin tone is key. Thanks for sharing, beauty, and I hope you have a great week!
