Project Pan 2k21

February 4, 2021

The other day I was talking to my friend about the project pan concept. However, she was unfamiliar with it. So, I told her I'd write a blog post about it. So this one goes out to you, Abbey.

I have wanted to do a project pan for a long time. A project pan is basically where you take a bunch of your beauty products and  quite literally try to hit the pan of the product or use them up completely. I have TONS of beauty, and skincare products that I'd like to use up this year.

My goal is not necessarily to use up my existing collection to buy more makeup, but rather to buy better. Many of you know that I am basically a member of Captain Planet and the Planeteers. I already recycle 100% of my beauty products through Terracyle (Read more, here). So I'd like to purchase re-fillable makeup products/dual purpose products somewhere down the road so my environmental impact can lessen.

I have 10 items on my project pan with the goal of using up 7.

Here are the 10 items on my list:

Urban Decay Naked Cherry Highlight & Blush Palette | 66% left

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Paaarty | 100% left

Hairstory Hair Balm | 40% left

Pixi Beauty Vitamin C Caviar Balm | 40% left

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Blur Perfector | 70% left

Urban Decay Aphrodisiac Eyeshadow Palette | 84% left

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit | 100% left

Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick Underage Red | 30% left

NYX Cosmetics Soft Matte Lip Cream in Milan | ? left

Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick Lovecraft | 20% left

Last year I was wearing makeup up to 6 days a week until March when the pandemic really settled in so I have a lot of work to do this year. While my makeup routine faltered my skincare routine vamped up which is why I have picked less skincare products for my project pan. Additionally, I decided in 2021 I will start to get ready in the mornings again instead of simply rolling out of bed and putting jeans + a Lakers sweatshirt on. If I'm going to do this challenge I'm going to do it right which honestly means having a beauty routine even if I'm home 95% of the time (More to come).

So that's it, friends. I am going to be taking monthly shots of my project pan to see my progress! Also, please don't be intimidated to start a project pan! You don't have to start on January 1. You can literally start today. Even if its just one product you want to go through I challenge you to try to use up a beauty product in your collection. The feeling is priceless!

  1. OMG what a cool project! I love that you are being an eco-conscious beauty consumer! I always finish my skincare products because I use them long term to see how they perform on my skin, but with makeup, I rarely hit pan on my eyeshadows. I need to start using Terracycle!

  3. I've seen a lot of people doing these project and I think it's a great idea to use up more of what we have :) I just have the one foundation, mascara, eyeshadow and blush and lipstick though, haha! I'm not really a beauty person so I've never done this as I just use what I have then buy a new one. I haven't been wearing makeup at all but in the opposite to you I've found I have a lot of skincare/haircare samples I'm struggling to use up so I'm focusing on using them more, try empty out my bathroom cabinets a bit, haha!

Hope you are enjoying your weekend :)

  5. This is such a fun thing to start. I love being able to fully use a product to its last drop before buying a new one.

  6. This is a great idea, and really helps prompt you to focus on the products you have rather than buying willy nilly when something new comes out. Thanks for sharing <3

  9. Hi
I never heard about that pan project, it seems very interesting, without knowing I do that for a long time, I always finish my beauty products!

  10. I have been wanting to try hitting pan but it is hard to do in a pandemic. Good luck with your goals and just want to say I LOVE the NYX cream matte lippies they are so good, and they are affordable.

  11. Great project, I love seeing project pan shot on my Instagram feed. Tbh, as much as I can do this with skincare products, I do not remember the last time I hit pan on or finished my makeup products (minus mascara). Curious to see your updates in the future! xx

  12. What a cool project- and I love the sustainability aspect. I barely wear makeup anymore now that I'm working from home, so this would take me forever now, haha.

  14. This is a pretty cool idea. But I don't wear makeup as much lately and when I do I have a few different favourites which I like to go back and forth between.
