The Buxom Edit

January 26, 2018

Since I was 15 I've been obsessed with eyeshadows. If I was stranded on a deserted island I would probably bring all my eye shadows and they'd just turn into Wilson from Cast Away. Buxom Cosmetics reached out to me to try some of their products and when I received them I nearly cried.
Initially I had only tried one of their bar single eyeshadows (and eyeshadow compact) in Invite Only (a matte terracotta) to replace a KVD eyeshadow I had loved, and it was lovely. Grab a espresso drink and let's dive in.
First of all I think the idea to have a customizable eyeshadow palette is genius. There's always certain shades you use a lot of in eyeshadow palettes and then some you barely use, however I'm trying to break this habit with my Modern Renaissance which is possibly a game changer. Nevertheless, the Eyeshadow Bar Compact ($13) holds 6 eye shadows and they're so easy to put in and take out. The eyeshadows have a primer infused technology and for the most part are all buttery and beautiful.

I chose to do a pinky palette. It was so easy to slide the shades in. Eyeshadow shades from left to right:
Silk Sheets  / Glitz Factor / Famous Flirt / It Crowd / Filthy Rich / Party Girl

I swatched these for you below. Off-topic but seriously a shout out to anyone who swatches eyeshadow, not an easy task, and geez you have to use so much!
Silk Sheets- This shade is a beautiful frosty warm beige. Great for the center of my lids when I'm looking for a less shimmery look.

Glitz Factor- This shade is a frosty coral. It reminds me a bit of Kat Von D's Killing Jar from the Monarch Palette, but darker/more pigmented/and more coral-y. Its a very Andie in Pretty in Pink kinda shade which I love. I think pairing it with my underused Killing Jar will be a success.

Famous Flirt- A warm, light orange with satin finish. I love this shade. What a beautiful color. Since I hit the pan on Anastasia's Tempera/any color like this in KVD palettes this will be a great shade to alternate/replace it with

It Crowd- It Crowd is probably one of my favorite shades out of this bunch. Its a warm orange with satin finish. I need to try mixing it with one of my ABH reds to make a really moody look!

Filthy Rich - A beautiful warm matte brown. It pairs beautifully on the crease with Glitz Factor.

Party Girl- This was the shade I struggled most with. It wasn't super pigmented and I really needed a lot of it to get the bar color. It blends very nicely with ABH Modern Renaissance colors, a nice addition to my reds, but does fade throughout the day. Could use a touch up towards the end of the night.
Hold the Line Eyeliner ($17.00 for 0.04 oz) - A beautiful, creamy pencil eyeliner. The formula is a, "glide on gel." The wear time is 14 hours and I'd agree that it has a life of 12-14 hours. The pigmentation is rich. I do wish this came with a sharpener/sharpened itself, because I feel like the first sharpen on an eyeliner is so important, but such is life!

At first the Big Tease Mascara was a little dry/clumpy on me, but I paired it with my Lancome Cils Booster XL Super-Enhancing Mascara Base from my Sephora Play box and it worked like a dream!

Thanks for stopping by friends, I'll see you soon. Maybe one day when I get this YouTube channel started I'll do some looks with my eyeshadow bar.

I received these products complimentary from Buxom for testing purposes. All opinions are always my own.

  1. I've not tried anything from Buxom before but I definitely hovered over there stand while I was in the States recently! Building your own palette makes so much - you just know you're going to end up with something where you love EVERY shade! I love the look of Famous Flirt!

  9. I love the idea of a custom palette, because there are always 2 or 3 that I never use in the palettes I have. All the pinkish shades are so pretty! I've never tried this brand before--you keep me in the know Sonia! :) Have a good week!

    1. Awh so good to hear Mme. I think a customizable palette is definitely worth it. Especially if you do some sampling at Sephora and see the wear of the 6 shadows you want to choose!
