March Sephora Play 2018 Review

April 12, 2018

Hi friends! Another month another Sephora Play box! To be honest I didn't have any idea what was going to be in this Sephora Play box until I received it. This past month's theme was called, "Festival of Beauty" it catered towards the festival season spirit but giving the options of staying in and glamping as well! I am most definitely staying in unless I randomly win a giveaway. I was surprised that there wasn't anything from the Too Faced Life's a Festival collection since it was so relevant and new but that's Sephora Play for ya.

Briogeo is a brand that I've become more familiar with through Sephora Play, but haven't quite gotten any fonder. This is a dual action spray that gives volume and texture. I am always looking for a little bit more volume and texture for my thin af hair so I wasn't super bummed about this spray minus the fact that I did get a Bumble & Bumble Thickening Spray a couple months ago...

Ok first of all who are all these Doctors? Dr. Brandt, Dr. Dennis Gross, Dr. Jart? Who are you guys and how did you manage to go to med school and create all these products? I am not sure how I feel about this BB cream. I love BB cream. I think that they are a great substitute for days when you don't feel like wearing foundation however I don't think I was a fan of this BB cream. It was so thin and the coverage is quite light. I think I'm going to use this as moisturizer underneath my foundation, but I am slightly bummed, because I really wanted to be able to wear this as a substitute for foundation.

I love Sephora Collection liquid lipsticks and this purple was the first of the hopefully new colors Sephora Play will throw at us. I still need to find a good eye look to go with this lipstick but I'm enjoying this fresh color.

Lately I have realized how much I LOVE mascara. Currently I'm finishing off a Buxom and Too Faced mascara and then I will get to this one!

This eyeliner is a warm taupe with a pearl finish. Its definitely not the first eyeliner I pick up, but I have decided that I'm going to be more open to new eyeliner colors. I kinda want liquid Sephora Collection eyeliner's but I don't think they sell minis.
I'm all about cleansing cremes but was confused when I used this product and it lathered just like a shampoo. Cleansing cremes are formulated differently than typical shampoo and conditioner. I did some research and it really just is a shampoo and conditioner so I was bit disappointed and confused as to why this is described as a cleansing creme. In terms of this product I wasn't really impressed. Usually when I switch products  I can notice a difference on my hair, but with this product my hair felt shinier but wasn't hydrated at  all.

So all in all? Another month and I'm still feeling ambivalent about Sephora Play as a whole. I have this discussion all the time with my friends who are subscribers. I'm not sure what I'd spend the $10 a month or $120 a year on aside from maybe some full size beauty products? I've considered subscribing to other beauty boxes but the Play Passes are pretty great because I can be a VIB vs a BI.

  1. I keep hearing great things about Briogeo, but their bestselling masks didn't really wow me. But I would try the texturizing spray, I also need a bit of volume in my hair! I love that shade of Sephora lipstick! I would wear it just with a very simple eyeliner flick and lots of mascara, maybe a gold-toned highlighter as well xx

    1. Agreed they haven't wowed me! I've tried their conditioning mask twice and really haven't noticed anything. The texturizing spray is definitely an upgrade. Ooh perfect suggestion Naya!

  3. Sephora Play is a definitely a great way to introduce you to new brands but certainly has its downfalls if you don't get on with the products! I've heard brilliant things about the Lancome Hypnose Drama so hopefully you'll like it!

    1. I've been a little tired of the same brands on rotation, but it doesn't seem like a lot of brands are making samples which is annoying!

  5. I am so disappointed you didn't love the BB cream! I've been on the hunt for a favorite - they're so hard to come by. You must try NYX's one! Only $100 too xx

  11. It's a shame that this box didn't impress you very much - I think subscription boxes can be so hit and miss!

Hope you are having a lovely week so far. We have some cooler weather at last so it's starting to feel a little more like autumn :)

  12. I laughed out loud @ your 'who are all these doctors' hahahahha. I think subscriptions boxes are great to discover new items but its so disappointing when the products aren't good - I used to subscribe to a few but have cancelled them all because I was just accumulating all these minis that I hate

    1. Haha I thought it was a little funny too! I still am wondering who these doctors are, for real?! Amen- sometimes I want to try Birchbox but idk. The nice is thing is that I finish most of the samples for Sephora Play or I can give them to my friends and we all trade makeup like we're in 5th grade haha.
