My Alaskan Cruise

August 19, 2019

Here's a fun fact about me, I've always wanted to visit Alaska! Ever since I read Into the Wild it has always been a dream of mine to see Alaska. Sometime ago my mom asked me if I was interested in going on an Alaskan cruise with my extended family. To be completely honest at first I said no because of my summer classes. My summer classes ran all the way through the week of our cruise and I had no idea whether I would finish all my coursework. However, with a lot of planning I managed to get it all done. As promised here is my photo diary!
While I've been on a couple cruises before this was my first cruise with Princess Cruises. Also this was my first time visiting the pacific northwest so I had no idea what to pack for a cruise to Alaska in August besides 6 eyeshadow palettes. Kidding! I brought 2, ok?!

I swear I read every blogger's "What to Pack for an Alaskan Cruise" but unfortunately none of them were super helpful especially for an August Alaskan cruise. So I decided to share my packing list I made on the Stylebook app. Check out my post on Packing with Stylebook for more packing tips!

Overall the climate ranged from mid 60s to high 70s. At most I needed a light jacket. My Lululemon Cloud Crush Jacket was perfect for this trip. It's a seam-sealed, waterproof jacket that can be converted from a short to a long rain jacket! I also packed a lot of t-shirts for this trip. I didn't know how much hiking/walking would be involved so I didn't want to pack a bunch of blouses which actually worked out for the better. While a hat isn't necessary my $2 baker boy hat from Target sufficed. There was a good amount of walking but a pair of chelsea boots from Target worked for me!

In true Chanel fashion I brought seven dresses for the seven dinners. Yes, I probably could've brought a capsule wardrobe, but I haven't worn a few of these dresses nearly enough so it was nice to bring them out. The ship was never terribly cold so I didn't have to worry about bringing extra layers.
The only thing I purchased for this trip was a $4 Hunter x Target rubber clutch. I apparently only own leather handbags and with the forecast being rainy I didn't want to ruin any of my bags or have to worry so I invested in this clutch (which I had actually wanted for awhile). While it didn't rain at all this bag was great for a small wallet and a chapstick/mini KVD lipstick. P.S. how pretty is this OPI color?! Day 1: Leave from Port of Seattle
Day 2: At Sea
The only reading material I was interested in for the week
O.P.I following me everywhere

Day 3: Juneau
Visiting the Mendenhall Glacier in Tongass National Forest wearing my Chloe Milla sunglasses

Beautiful Alaskan butter and eggs
Day 4: Skagway
Real life vs. the blog
We also took a train tour in Skagway, but I spent most of my time fearing for my life since I'm dramatic + afraid of heights!

Day 5: Glacier Bay
A latte with my aunt
Glacier Bay National Park was truly one of the most breathtaking things I have ever seen.

Day 6: Ketchikan
A tiramisu!

Day 7: Victoria, B.C.
I ended up getting sick in Victoria, B.C. and didn't manage to take many pictures which was a shame. Victoria was not only beautiful but bustling with so much life from flowers to the city. For some weird reason we didn't get to Victoria until 7 p.m. so I had to miss out on all the shopping. They have a HUGE Hudson Bay in Victoria (still depressed). I've never seen so many hydrangeas in my entire life. Wish I could've gotten a picture!

Day 8:  Depart from Seattle
Chanel-O!
Literally my life's dream to visit the original Starbucks
All my life I have dreamed of going to Seattle. Seeing the original Starbucks, the Space Needle, and visiting the Public Market have all been on my bucket list! So I was honestly more excited to be  visiting Seattle for a few hours. Although we only spent 4 hours there I was still so grateful. I have to go back!

Overall, I'm so glad I went on this cruise. Thanks mom and Toni for coaxing me! I feel like I spent a lot of time reveling at the glaciers and how beautiful nature is. It was so nice to slow down and relax with my family for a week especially after 16 weeks of summer classes. The water wasn't rough at all until we got to Victoria so I would suggest this cruise to any first time cruiser (Always bring Dramamine though). I will say that this cruise involved a lot of walking. If hiking or walking a couple miles a day isn't your thing you can always adjust. Plus, Princess Cruises has a coffee package where you can get 15 specialty drinks for 7 days for $30 ish dollars. You know I drank all fifteen! Talk soon, friends!
