Coconut Gel Highlighter Review

May 5, 2017

I've quoted the infamous Rory Gilmore before on the blog, her signature line (for me at least), "When did I become one of those girls with dozens of beauty products, none of which are expendable? It used to be a touch of mascara, dab of Coppertone, zip, bam, boom, out the door." I'm not sure when I moved on from moody middle school eyeliner and a bit of Almay liquid makeup to to the winged eye, full coverage foundation, highlighter, bronzer, a bold lip, and a carousel full of makeup. So I understand Rory's existential question/crisis. Although I'm not ready to discuss about how I feel on the revival, I am ready to discuss my thoughts on Marc Jacobs Beauty's Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter which I received complimentary from Influenster.
This product is $44.00 for 0.8 oz, in my opinion a pretty great deal. You can use this highlighter directly onto your face since it is a gel-cream or mixed in with foundation or primer for an all-over kind of look. What makes this highlighter so unique is that it is formulated with 5 forms of coconut such as alkalanes, coconut milk, coconut water, coconut polysaccharides, and coconut fragrance. These ingredients do multiple things such as hydrate, provide electrolytes, and condition.

The packaging is elegant and clean. I can't help but leave the product out on my vanity. It seems so cruel to put it away. As you can see its a white, silver, and glass bottle.

As for the ingredient list it consists of: water, Mica, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Glycerin, Tromethamine, Parfum/Fragrance, Lecithin, Carbomer, Polysorbate 20, Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Dimethiconol, Simethicone, Hexylene Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Disodium Edta, Tocopherol, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Diisostearyl Malate, Butylene Glycol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Water, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Panthenol, Withania Somnifera Root Extract, Silica, Isostearyl Alcohol, Malic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Tin Oxide, Coumarin, Linalool, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491), Carmine (Ci 75470).

I think this Coconut line will expand since Marc Jacobs' loves coconut water and there are two other coconut products, a setting mist and primer. My guess is a coconut foundation will be next! Which I'd be interested in trying. I've been curious to try the setting spray too. In regards to dupes I found Wet 'n' Wild Precious Petals to be 95% similar (according to Temptalia) for $4.99. Visually they look pretty similar but the formulation is completely different and I would assume application too. I would like to do a comparison post on these highlighters sometime in the future but I can never find a Wet N' Wild highlighter at Walgreens!

So final thoughts, I really adore this highlighter, I love it so much, and a little truly goes such a long way. I don't own any gel cream highlighters but after this one I don't think I'll need any! This highlighter is so beautiful, glamorous, and luxurious. It does have a coconut scent but I barely notice it. I do think that it sets really fast so you have to blend it out quickly. After ten hours of wear it still looks great- I hope they add another shade as this is the only shade in 50 Dew You for reference?

What are your favorite highlighters or glow ready products? Hope everyone is having a beautiful May, it has been such a busy month for me.

  16. Hahah I totally agree with that quote! For me the change happened during college. I went from only wearing sunscreen to wearing a full face of makeup everyday. I think now that I've graduated I've scaled it back and sometimes only wear sunscreen and chapstick :)

The marc jacobs highlighter looks and sound fab! He really knocks it out with the packaging. That's interested that the wet n wild highlighter is supposed to be a color dupe. Hope you can find it at a walgreens near you! If not I know they sell it on the wnw site and they do occasionaly offer free shipping promos :)

    1. I think my junior and senior year of college I started just wearing chapstick and moisturizer on days where I felt lazy since I'd have a full face on most of the week.

Its really beautiful I think you'd like it, and its so long lasting. I usually rotate between Watts Up, Wet N' Wild cushion highlighter, and this one. Personally I think this is the best out of the tree! I'll have to look for those promos, thanks for letting me know!

  20. Cream highlighter is the way to go. Really adds more shine to the highlight giving you a stronger glow. Marc Jacobs beauty is always good too. There's an RMS highlighter cream that was applied on me at a fashion show that I'm dying to buy. It gave me the most amazing glow.

    1. Agreed! I also love ABH glow palettes but I can't justify having so many shades when it takes me ages to get done with one bottle or package. Ooh I'll have to try that one. Thanks for stopping by!
