March Sephora Play Review

May 27, 2016

I love mixing up my Sephora Play reviews with the help of my sweet friend Emma. She thought of the idea to mix up my beauty products with my Instax polaroids.

In order: Valentines Day Roses from Dad/ Steph, Liz, Carly Rae Jepsen + Me @ the Granada/ Valentines Day Roses from N/
N + Me/ Manhattan Hill/ N + Me/ Mme + Me @ Starbucks/ Haircut @ Paisley & Stripe/ Abbey at IHOP/

I've had an Instax since my freshman year of college and I keep them in a sweet little photo album. I don't take a massive amount of photos on my Instax because the film is a bit pricey but I do take quite a few pictures. Mainly candids of my friends, flowers I receive, and my boyfriend Nate.

We mixed in some of my new Sephora Play products and some of my favorite lipsticks with my Instax pictures. My favorite lipsticks consist of NYX's soft matte lip cream in Cannes (my go to lip product lately), Kat Von D's Studded Kiss lipstick in Lolita (original Lolita I), and a Gwen Stefani x Urban Decay lipstick I'll post a review on it soon ;)

Now onto my March Sephora Play review!

Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30
I was hesitant to try this product considering Murad used to have those infomercials on television all the time. In the Sephora, Play Book it said this product was "an instagram filter for your face." That sold it for me. I had to try it. When I did I was truly amazed at the results. I use a Nuance by Salma Hayek for CVS tinted moisturizer and it always applies a little patchy, but when I put this Invisiblur on first it transforms the product and really smooths the tinted moisturizer on my face. I want to say this product is kinda like a primer, but honestly it's better than any primer I've ever tried including Hourglass' Mineral Veil.

Sephora Collection The Perfectionist Airbrush Sponge $12 (not pictured)
I'm not sure if I'm just too late to the sponge party but I wasn't a huge fan of this sponge. I tried it several ways and I didn't get the results I wanted. You're supposed to bounce the brush on your face (a much harder task than what it seems) and I just didn't get the smooth "airbrush" look I wanted. The coverage just wasn't enough for me. When using this sponge all my makeup would rub off. I did try this sponge with a waterproof MAC foundation and it worked much better. I would suggest only getting this if you want a lighter coverage look, otherwise I insist you must use waterproof foundation.

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper
I'm biased. I love every single Kat Von D product she's made. I've owned at least four Lock It Tattoo foundations. I have six different lipsticks (two from the original packaging) and two duplicates of both Backstage Bambi and Lolita I. The only eyeshadow palettes I own are Kat Von D. Needless to say I love the Kat Von D brand, and I am definitely brand loyal. If I could own every single KVD product without growing broke I would. I've tried this eyeliner countless times and it never seems to fail me. If I were teaching a class in doing a cat eye I'd recommend this product. It has the best and finest tip I've ever used for eyeliner. Only downside to this product is that I wish this product was more affordable because I go through eyeliner pretty frequently.

Maison Martin Margiela 'REPLICA' Beach Walk
I included this product into my April Favorites read it here. Essentially this perfume is very beachy. Definitely a different perfume that I wouldn't typically choose for my aesthetic. I'm a Prada/Calvin Klein/occasionally DKNY girl. However this scent is really clean and I loved the notes of lemon, pink peppercorn, coconut milk, and cedar wood. Only downside is that I don't feel like this perfume lasts long at all. Honestly who has the time to assess the longevity of their perfume though?

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil
I didn't like the packaging of this oil. It's in a little tube and it's hard to decide how to apply this. I poured a little into the cap and pretty much just poured the oil onto my face from the cap. I'd like to try using a sponge eye brush and see if that distributes the product better. However I don't feel like I got "photo finish" results. My face is primed, oui. The foundation looks smoother than it did without the primer but I certainly wouldn't buy this product.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser (not pictured)
I've seen this face cleanser in every beauty aficionado's medicine cabinet. However when I first got this product I was a bit disappointed because it started leaking everywhere once I opened it. I do like that this cleanser is sort of an all in one product. It's definitely reduced the amount I've been using my Clarisonic (I guess all these face cleansers I've been getting have done that). I don't think I'd repurchase this product, it's just okay to me. I wish it was a bit more fragrant as so many other Fresh products like their lip sugars have such a beautiful smell. This product just has a very slight smell of cucumber which I'm not the biggest fan of.

Overall, this box has definitely been my favorite thus far. It had so many products I've been wanting to try but never wanted to invest in. This box has definitely had the highest pay off. Plus, I love KVD's eyeliner! I wish  I could afford to regularly buy this product but I'm glad I got a little sample. I also really loved Murad's Invisiblur. I wish this product wasn't so expensive or I would definitely buy a full size, maybe they'll make a travel size. I also love 'REPLICA' Beach Walk, I can understand why Yeezy is always name dropping Maison Margiela. I definitely want this perfume not sure if I want a rollerball, but I'd definitely buy an ounce. Although the boyfriend says its not very distinct like my other scents (Prada, CK, DKNY).

A big thanks to my talented friend Emma York. Wish her success in Wichita! Follow Emma on instagram, here!

  5. I really want to try the smashbox oil primer, shame about the packaging. It's so annoying when a product is ruined by the packaging!

  14. I received my first Sephora play box last week and was so stoked! That murad primer sounds amaaazing. I had no idea that Murad used to be one of those infomercial brands. That smashbox oil primer seemed so odd to me, the fact that it's difficult to use definitely means I won't be purchasing it anytime soon. I really like the Fresh face wash! Then again I also love the smell of cucumber :)
