Dressing the Winter Blues

March 6, 2018

Before we began possibly the most ambivalent winter on record here in Kansas I started to think about what I wanted to add to my winter wardrobe that would make dressing for colder days more exciting. Truth be told my winter wardrobe is my favorite. I love long coats, gloves, sweaters, layers, wearing boots everyday, and especially turtlenecks.
You may remember me wearing a black turtleneck from this post. It ended up being a little too cropped at times so I decided to resell it. I figured since I wore my old turtleneck so frequently I'd commit and buy a turtleneck bodysuit from American Apparel I had been eying instead of giving J. Crew more of my money.
The chain link belt is a trend that I've seen for a long time coming. From Pucci to DSquared2 to Gucci to Instagram stars. Its such a versatile trend. I love pairing this bodysuit with high rise denim and my newest favorite accessory this Kate Spade chain and ribbon belt. I felt like it took an eternity to get this belt. I bought it off Poshmark and it was stuck in NYC in the snow storm. I had been wanting it for my trip to D.C. but didn't get it until after. So I've been wearing it pretty regularly to make up for lost time. It basically goes with anything!
I love that a good black turtleneck is a clean slate. It pairs well with anything. I also love how versatile this chain belt is. I would make a suggestion to get a tight fitting chain belt or the effect isn't quite right.
Have you checked out Sephora Collection's new lip stories?! I'm obsessed with them. I found myself watching a swatch video and within 10 minutes I declared that I needed 8 new lipsticks and 10 more to buy for my girlfriends. I'm wearing Labyrinth City which is a matte shade. It seemed more of a medium dusty rose but shows up just a little bit more cherry on camera. Seriously for $8 a piece they're worth checking out and the packaging is 10/10.

So friends, how do you feel about turtlenecks? I feel like everyone has such mixed reviews on them. Audrey Hepburn or very Jerry Seinfeld (an amusing Google Search, btw). Thoughts?

P.S. who is ready for spring, the first day is March 20?! It was 54 degrees yesterday and today it was freezing and snowed! I guess that's Kansas! I still can't believe its March! 2018 is moving so quickly and I'm trying be as present and grateful as I can. School has been keeping me busy but spring break will be here before I know it. I've been watching Riverdale religiously, reading, and taking long walks in my spare time. This weekend I'm going to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to see the new exhibit. I'm also hoping that I can make an impromptu trip to IKEA for cinnamon rolls and plants!

Wearing: Turtleneck - American Apparel (exact), jeans - Urban Outfitters, belt - Kate Sade (similar), watch - Marc By Marc Jacobs, shoes - Lord & Taylor (sold out) (similar)

  4. I love the chain belt, it looks like it was worth the wait! :) I don't like how restrictive turtlenecks feel around my neck - although I love scarves, go figure! but I admire the classic turtleneck on others :)

Hope you are having a good week so far :) I've lost my voice so not the best week for me, haha! I'm trying to rest up.

  6. I'm saving up all my Riverdale episodes so I can binge-watched them all in one go. I personally love turtlenecks because they're comfy and adds a bit of elegant (I think) to an outfit. Enjoy your time at the museum and I hope you get to go to Ikea cause they have the best, cheapest food haha

  15. I've been seeing more chain link belts too! Sometimes they're the only accessory that will tie your outfit together. I like turtlenecks, except when they make my face look fat. And I'm definitely going to check out Sephora lip stories now!

  16. Actually I used to not like turtlenecks at all! I found them quite uncomfortable, and living where I am, I never saw the need for them. However, within the last year or two I've been so obsessed. Crazy how our opinions can change without rhyme or reason! I really should get a basic black one, I wear my maroon one all the time!
