Brixton Loafer Review

July 27, 2018

Since I started my internship I realized that wearing heels at the office is the easiest way to make me exhausted. So I thought long and hard what my options could be. A) Buy a temporary pair of shoes off eBay to wear through the summer (not actually tackling the problem of finding a comfortable pair of shoes for the office that work for me IRL) or B) Buying something comfortable, versatile, and higher-end that would be considered expensive overall, but the style will endure.

Similarly, I had been discussing with my parents and my friends about investing in a pair a Gucci loafers. I tend to keep shoes for a long time and take really good care of them so after a lot of thought option B had to be my answer. After much research, cost per wear analysis, and a major Saks discount I decided against Kreayshawn and am now living the Gucci Gucci life.

I was back and forth between Brixton and Jordaan. Honestly what I cared about more was comfort, both are incredibly beautiful shoes. YouTube videos didn't help me decide either so it kinda was a shot in the dark. While the styles are relatively similar. The Jordaan style is clean, and sleek. However, I preferred Brixton because I liked the idea of them turning into slides. Slides alone were never on my radar just because of my feet, but Brixton has the convertible aspect which was interesting if I ever decided to try it.

I struggled with sizing. I am a true 9 or 39 in European size (I have really wide feet), but I wasn't sure about Jordaan since its notoriously narrow. Most people said that Brixton fit pretty normally although I was hesitant. I have a pair of loafers from Urban Outfitters that is a 9 and they fit like a glove so I based my decision off that pair. 39 fits perfectly.

The first wear of the Brixton's with heel guards on them was incredible. These shoes are so comfy and stylish. It really solidified the value of the shoe for me. Nevertheless, I decided that I needed sole guards/heel guards for these shoes because I want them to last as long as possible. This step took a extra couple of weeks with my cobbler, but I would definitely advise to get heel and rubber sole guards.

These shoes are made completely of leather so I really have to watch the weather and if there's a sign of rain bring another pair of shoes with me or water resistant shoe covers. I also put them in cedar shoe trees which really help keep the shoes in tact and in shape.

I usually wear no show socks with these loafers or a funky pair of socks if I'm channeling my inner Man Repeller. I have yet to find the right pair of no show socks so I cannot sufficiently advise but I have found that Timberland sells a pair with a gel material at the heel which works the best. I can't seem to find it online but I will experiment and keep you updated.

Styling wise these shoes can be worn with virtually anything from a MC t-shirt to a Anna Sui wrap dress. I have yet to try these as slides, but I think that opens these pairs up to many more options.

Overall I LOVE these shoes and I feel like they are so worth it, but I can understand the hesitations. However, I really think Gucci shoes hold up. My Dad has had a pair for 7 years and there is virtually no wear which is crazy!

What do you think would you splurge or save? If I were to suggest an alternate pair I would suggest this Tory Burch pair.

I never knew about not wearing leather shoes in the rain though, oops! I just waterproof mine with the same spray I use on my bags and wear them year-round! maybe I need to check they aren't damaged!

Hope you are having a nice weekend! :) It's a busy one here, lots of rushing around, but also some family time which is nice :)
