Life's a Picnic

May 10, 2021

Back in March my dear friend Mallory asked me how I wanted to spend my birthday. I've never been much of a birthday person minus my mid-teens but this past year has definitely made me reconsider. So, we decided on a picnic at my favorite place in Kansas City, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

It was a perfect spring afternoon. Mallory picked me up in her Prius and I brought along one of my prized possessions this vintage picnic set which my best friend's mom gave me. What I love most about this set is that it comes with all the stuff you need for a picnic! Plates, silverware, a blanket, wine opener, the whole nine yards!

I nearly started to cry when Mallory surprised me with this beautiful gluten-free pistachio cake. It was just as delicious as it looks! She is such a brilliant cook.

I've had this creamsicle colored dress since January. It was initially a Christmas present from my mom! However, it got lost in the mail and I didn't think it was ever going to arrive until one day it appeared in my mailbox. I am such a sucker for a-line dresses that are vintage inspired but I think I was drawn most to the color.

This dress is so versatile and great for summer. I can style it with basically any type of shoe. Although I gravitate towards espadrilles. I love that this dress can also be dressed up or down with accessories. I like pairing it with a wicker bag but I'll bring out a Gucci bag every now and again.
I had been looking for the perfect gray cardigan for months. Finally I found a cotton/silk blend from COS via Poshmark and I actually wear this everywhere. If you're hunting for something and haven't found the right thing don't settle even if its a seemingly small item like a cardigan. Wait for the perfect item. You'll know.
It feels so different to have been able to celebrate this year with my friends and family. It's honestly the greatest blessing to be able to spend time together again. So, thank you for sharing my day with me. I had a beautiful day and think this year will be one of the best ones yet.

A final round of profuse thanks to my friend Mal who I love dearly and will never forget the gluten-free pistachio "S" cake. I am so grateful to have a friend like you.
