dress

Are you one of those people where if you love something, you buy it in every color? Because I am. You may remember this blog post, which is probably one of my favorite posts, where I tell the story of buying a dress my Bitmoji wore (tbh my Bitmoji has been wearing this dress for years bc I refuse to give it up).

Life seems to be moving fast again. Between bridal showers, birthdays, weddings, work events, etm. It feels like there's more of a reason to get dressed again. I've been feeling the urge to revamp my wardrobe too. An odd feeling considering its something I haven't thought critically about in a little over two years.

This summer has been so different than the last. In mid-May the CDC lifted the mask mandate for fully vaccinated people. Life seemed to be opening up again. I was consistently going into the office and painting the town red with friends. I started to think about life a little further out and started embracing my style and body again.

The title of this post sounds like code you'd use to get into a speakeasy (when getting into speakeasy's was a thing.) but I promise I'm going somewhere.

I've thought about how I'd go about writing this post so many times. Carrie Bradshaw once said, "The most exciting, challenging, and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself." Over the course of the past year my relationship with myself has been exceptionally challenging to say at the least.

Back in 2016 Bitmoji dropped a collection with Bergdorf Goodman and W Magazine. You could dress your Bitmoji in designers like Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, and DVF. Coincidentally, that's where I first ran into this dress. My Bitmoji wore it first, hah!

If you know one thing about me you probably know how much I love flowers. So when I heard that the Posey Flower Cart was selling blooms on wheels in a vintage single horse trailer I knew I had to go check it out. The cart pops up around all over Kansas City.

I start so many stories about how I walk past J. Crew and my life just changes. I still feel like every time I pass by or walk into J. Crew its a scene straight out of Confessions of a Shopaholic.

Last October I wrote a post called Seeing Red where I realized that besides black, red is also my power color. It makes me feel strong, and motivated. Since then I have bought a handful of solid red dresses for several occasions from casual to formal. Truth be told red is universally flattering on all skin tones and can be worn all year long from the holiday season to summer.

My wrap dress obsession continues. Seriously I just bought another DVF wrap dress last Saturday. However, the more I buy them the more I love the simplicity and versatility of these dresses. They look so put together, and they're so comfy.

Once in a blue moon Modcloth does their Stylish Surprise. Stylish Surprise is a mystery box that used to be just apparel, but has now been extended to shoes and home goods. The last time I ordered a Stylish Surprise was in April 2014. Although I was pleased with what I received, I ended up re-gifting my dress because it suited my friend Liz much better than me.

When I unboxed this dress I instantly was surprised by the unusual print. I was intrigued, it reminded me of something Carrie Bradshaw would wear in the Carrie Diaries --- the CW show based on Candace Bushnall's book series starring Anna-Sophia Robb. Dreadful show, but it had the most amazing, and original styling, RIP!
This dress is certainly something I wouldn't instantly order but I do love it. I was also surprised to see that this dress retailed originally for $140 from the brand Emily and Fin. It's the Painted City Circus Dress, on Modcloth it's known as "Walk Down the Isle in Cosmopolitan." The only problem I have with this dress is that its a tad long, and I need to have it taken in just the slightest. However, for $15 this dress is certainly worth it!

Other than frolicking in Modcloth dresses summer has been a busy one for me. I've been interning at Anthropologie as a Visual Display Intern and it's been so much fun. Other than interning I've been going to concerts, spending time with friends and family, reading, and shopping (of course). My last read was Revolting Youth: the Further Journals of Nick Twisp and my last purchase was a pair of side-zipped denim shorts from J.Crew.

So, happy summer, friends. Let’s make this a beautiful one, the most beautiful yet. I challenge you to put on your favorite dress, and dance around to the Wombats. You can thank me later!

Today has been such a beautiful day! I cannot believe it's already April? 2014 is flying by so fast. Guess who is celebrating her 19th birthday with butterscotch-chocolate chip scones (hopefully) next Wednesday? This chick! I've only asked for a few things like: Downtown by Calvin Klein, a Satchel from the Satchel Co, and Suits season 1 & 2.

In other news, I finally did some shopping these past couple weeks and had to share. Right after spring break my roommate told me about this gnarly thing Modcloth had going on called, "Stylish Surprise." Essentially you pay $10, choose a size, and they send you a garment ranging from $30-$300. Pretty good deal, huh? I got a dress which I am wearing as a skirt called Frost & Foremost by Minuet. I do love Modcloth's uniquely named items, it always makes me smile. The dress was originally $75 and I got it for $10! Though it looks a tad awkward on me and certainly isn't a "Chanel" dress I like that its springy and can be layered with a piece on top. There was also this great clothing sale at my university and I found a $150 Free People dress for $25! This sweater I am wearing was only a dollar  as well! My clutch is c/o TrendyBlendy. It's called Seal the Deal in Teal Purse I really love it because of the versatility and because it can hold so much. I can pretty much shove everything into it and if I do get sick of using it as a clutch I can turn it into a purse with cords inside. Its gorgeous colour is enough to make anyone fall in love with it.

Life has been full of: busy days, new surprises, and challenges. I have been working hard and shopping even harder. My family's study is getting filled with things for my university dorm like: a Verismo, duvet from Urban Outfitters, pajamas from J-Crew, a chalk painted table, over the door shoe hangers, giant British flag floor pillow, and even more good stuff. Needless to say I would really like to win the "Coolest Dorm Room" award...though I doubt one exists. I've been shopping for all sorts of things like my first LED Gel nail kit which I'm obsessed with- will show y'all soon, and all sorts of clothes and makeup. In other news, I went to my first bridal shower the other day and wore this lovely dress.

This happens to be one of my faves. I got it at a flea market in NY but it is also on Modcloth called the "Pup Rally Dress." It's sort of ironic because my friend whose bridal shower I went to, has two dogs just like on the dress. Personally, I really dislike dogs collectively especially hers, but I couldn't pass up this dress. I am also wearing a flower crown I got from China, Chinaglaze polish in For Audrey, and Kat Von D "Oh My Goth" lipstick. My wonderful friend Helen Peng took these gnarly photos and she is also doing freelance senior photography in KC, seriously. CHECK IT OUT CHECK IT OUT CHECK IT OUT! I will be shooting with Helen again, pretty soon (; keep following!
