The RealReal Ocean's 9

May 27, 2021

The title of this post sounds like code you'd use to get into a speakeasy (when getting into speakeasy's was a thing.) but I promise I'm going somewhere.

When I think about owning this dress I actually think some sort of Ocean's level heist went down. I have wanted this dress for four solid years.  I still remember looking at this collection on Vogue.com back as a broke undergraduate student, and dreaming that I might someday acquire this beautiful dress.

However, this dream seemed almost as unfathomable as robbing the Bellagio, Mirage, and MGM Grand casinos because it retailed for $995. Plus after it sold out I couldn't find it anywhere.

I've used the RealReal for quite some time now. If you're not familiar with the brand, TRR is a huge online luxury consignment shop. While I've sold a few things here and there I'd never really shopped the site/app. Still I have seen so many pieces on TRR that I've wanted to purchase for insane prices (Like this dress). After what seemed like an eternity of this dress living in my head rent free I found it. For $64 freaking dollars?!

Also, I'll note that this price was the cheapest I've ever seen this dress listed on TRR and there is no significant wear. Wild. The one thing I really like about TRR is that you can waitlist items so that if they ever come back in stock in your size you'll be notified.  Full-disclosure I don't get a whole lot of notifications, but the option is great.

I'm so happy, friends. This dress makes my heart stop. As I once shared in this post my best piece of fashion advice for you is to hold out for clothes that leave you speechless. You may not be able to get them the season that they're "in", or even the following year, but holding out for great keeps both your fashion appetite and wallet satisfied.

In other news I wanted to say thank you to everyone who read my blog post from a couple weeks ago and left comment/shared. The outpour of love I received made me feel less alone and opened the door for me to continue to get vulnerable on JMC. Since we last spoke I visited some family in NYC,  found some beauty/light, and am continuing to seek professional help.  I am taking the time to truly take care of myself these days. As J. Cole would say, "If I’m betting on myself, then I’ll completely double down."

Wearing: Dress - Rachel Zoe (long gone, but similar), shoes - Harajuku Lovers (old, but similar), lipstick - Sephora 09 Labyrinth City, nails - OPI Coca Cola Red

  1. Nothing better than getting a piece you love and adore for such a bargain price! it's a really pretty dress, what a great find! I've bought a handful of things off the real real but despite the great prices the overseas shipping is killer, so it's either that I want to splurge so I can justify $60 shipping as a small % of the purchase price, or I buy a couple cheap things to make the most of the $60 shipping - haha! I haven't been browsing it as much as I used to pre pandemic, preferring local places instead.

Hope you are having a nice week :)

  6. This is such a full circle moment! You are so lucky to find this dress, even so many years after. It is so nice to finally get your hands on something you have wanted for so long, but couldn't get it initially for any kind of reason. How nice that it is in a great condition too! xx
