Alas, another summer has come to an end and per usual I hate to see it go. It was a summer with familiar rhythms, but also with entirely new beats. I celebrated life being brought to the world with my family! I moved! I started a new job! I began to find a new routine with my partner, our Yorkipoo, and my new position. I picked flowers and celebrated anniversaries, bottled honey, learned more about my role and industry, traveled to places seen and unseen, and felt stylish.
This summer my wardrobe felt way more like an extension of myself than ever before. Perhaps it was the forced closet inventory during packing and unpacking that sparked this reconnection. Combined with feeling good in my skin and transitioning to a new dress code, where I revisited and reconnected with pieces that I hadn't considered wearing to work before.
Let's talk about this dress for a moment. I had seen Amy (@stepsofstyle) wear it before and hoped that it might make her annual clothing sale. I was a little worried it might not fit because Amy is seven inches taller than me, but some things are just meant to be. When I tried this dress on it fit me perfectly and didn't even need to be hemmed?! Of course, it had to come home with me.
This summer was a blur. As the summer sunsets, I continue to be in awe of summer's transformative power. Summer is always a time for recreation, rest, and renewal, and for that, I'm deeply grateful.

Greetings and salutations, friends! Seasons 52 invited me back to try their new Rosé All Day, All Summer menu. Things are never boring at Seasons 52 because they revamp their menu every season! They also pour 52 world class wines and have added a carefully curated rosé menu. I was stoked to stop in with my friend Mallory!
Wow June was one crazy month. With starting a new internship, taking 6 graduate hours (The most I have ever taken at once), trying to get eight hours of sleep, and surviving Mars' retrograde has not been easy.
Although I was somewhat active on the blog (posting a few times in June) I missed being here mentally. Writing about style and beauty with a little bit of my life thrown in is such a therapeutic way to get your thoughts out. I am ecstatic to say that I have been shooting new content that I'm really excited about and can't wait to share. Honestly I am so grateful to be back blogging regularly.
So here's things 6 things I learned during June:
1. Focus on what you can do instead of what you can't. Somedays all the deadlines from school were so heavy. Instead of being proactive I would just focus on my current week and take the next week as it came. This was totally out of my comfort zone as I aspire to be proactive. However devoting all my attention to the task at hand ended up being better than trying to be ahead all the time. Sometimes you just have to do the best with what you have.
2. Take time for yourself. Although most weekends and days after work I spent in my room doing homework there were days where I didn't touch my homework at all, and I think those days were what kept me sane honestly. Getting to go to the Whole Foods Pre-Opening Party with my best friend Victoria, spending time with my loved ones, making time to go to Marshalls, and paint my nails kept me going. #Priorities.
3. Make time for meditation. I found my head spinning at the end of the night with deadlines from work, school, and life. Sometimes even making time for 5-7 minutes of guided meditation felt like a big deal and every time I was grateful I made time for it. I use Meditation Studio on my iPhone and on my Amazon Echo.
4. You are stronger than you think. I look back and wonder how I managed to get it all done and how much I doubted myself. What's funny is that I've been through so much worse so I don't know how or why I underestimate myself. Never forget, females are strong as hell.
5. Sometimes you have to give up things that you love to get things done. During these past 8 weeks I basically gave up reading, watching television for the most part, seeing my friends, and online shopping (all four past times I enjoy). At first knowing I was going to have to put all these things on the back burner was a real bummer, but as time went by I didn't have that much time to think about the things I was missing out on. I just had to go on. However having so much to look forward too when I was done was a nice motivator.
6. Stop and smell the orchids. For real. My boyfriend and I celebrated our fourth anniversary and went to the beautiful Kauffman Gardens in KC. Although I had a lot to stress about I stayed present in the moment and enjoyed every minute with him. There is a lovely indoor garden with beautiful orchids.I wandered around smelling them for a good ten minutes. It really made all the difference.
I recently picked up this Maeve blouse from Anthropologie via Poshmark. It was super long because it is originally a tunic, and was quite big on me. My mom managed to trim it (thanks mom). The original style is called the Paseo Tunic Button Down Top Tie Waist. Its supposed to be tied in the front rather than the back. However, I prefer the bow in the back a lot. It really adds something to the classic sleeveless white button down. I do want to try it the original way it was created. However I feel like the shape is kinda weird in the front. I may be reading into it, what do you think? Nonetheless its definitely a fun take on a classic and I have been needing a blouse like this forever. I can wear it with loafers or with birkenstocks.
I'm still obsessed with this scarf I got back in the spring. You may remember it from this post.
I am also making some serious progress at completing my goal of owning this whole J. Crew berry print collection. Just need the heels and silk blouse!
The easiest way to tie a bandana scarf is to fold it in half into a triangle. Then fold it half an inch on both sides until you get a small rectangle. Then you can tie it around your neck. I love this page from J.Crew on how to style a scarf in 7 ways.
Right now I'm getting out of the school/work groove and getting into the work/relax groove which I'll take any day. PS what do you guys think of this lip color? Its a Kylie Lip Kit and its the real deal! Review coming soon.
June has taken so much out of me but I tried to make lemonade with lemons and am grateful for what this past month has taught me. Two passed classes later and I'm honestly just so grateful that July is here. It feels like a gift to be able to live fully in the present again. Time to revitalize and recharge during this month. I think we all need to take more time to stop and smell the orchids.

Last week I was on vacation with my family in New York! My time with the city that doesn't sleep was short, (we spent only a week we usually spend 2) but it was packed with so much. My family and I spent some time in the Poconos, went on a waterfall trail, did some superb shopping, went bowling, went to a casino, and I even had time to do some fat henna! (See below) I told you, we did a lot! I'm really thankful that we decided to go back home this year =') I hope all of you got to take some time off for vacation!
I can't believe that this is going to be the last of my summer shoots with my dear friend Katie. Katie goes to the University of Michigan where she kicks major ass as a Style Guru for College Fashionista. It breaks my heart that I won't be seeing her til' Christmas time. ='( Absence truly does make the heart grow fonder though!
While shopping in New York I found this beautiful cream skirt at Forever 21 and couldn't believe my eyes. The intricacy and quality of the skirt was incredible. It looked like something out of a Free People catalog instead of Forever 21. Although I have something similar to this skirt I felt like it would be wearable throughout the seasons. Plus it was just too beautiful. I paired it with a simpler tank (stolen from my mothers closet), and to get the fall vibes going tied a flannel around my waist for a little bit of a twist. I think that this skirt can easily be worn up or down depending on whether you want to showcase it or not. My birkenstocks have been doing some major work this summer I'm sad to have to put them away. Lastly, my nails are my one last hoorah for summer, I'm wearing I Just Can't CopeA-Cabana by OPI. Last week I was on vacation with my family in New York! My time with the city that doesn't sleep was short, (we spent only a week we usually spend 2) but it was packed with so much. My family and I spent some time in the Poconos, went on a waterfall trail, did some superb shopping, went bowling, went to a casino, and I even had time to do some fat henna! (See below) I told you, we did a lot! I'm really thankful that we decided to go back home this year =') I hope all of you got to take some time off for vacation!
I can't believe that this is going to be the last of my summer shoots with my dear friend Katie. Which means making it as personalized as possible. All around this summer has been way too good to me and I am sad to see it ending soon. On the other hand, like most fall lovers I am sick of wearing shorts and want to wear a coat again. Which is why I insist on wearing jeans all the time now. Last week my dear friend Katie from Bello Foto took some shots of me again =) We spent the afternoon thrift shopping while Katie sang me the Dream Girls Soundtrack (on key of course), we rated clothes based on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and I laughed at her silliness. We also grabbed some cheesecake and I ventured to try Dulce de Leche. Wasn't quite up my alley but hey I'm all for trying new things.
I decided to wear a sheer black blouse from Forever 21 that is sort of hi-lo with jeans from Urban Outfitters, Steve Madden flats, my calculator watch from Target, and a flamingo fedora from Aldo. I ran into this hat, and intentionally thought I didn't need it, but I went back for it because I couldn't bear regretting not getting it. I am going to Florida in a little less than a month and I desperately wanted a hat to rock everywhere. After sorting through many flea market booths in NYC and finding nothing this hat was a good pick me up. I highly suggest finding a hat that encompasses you for summer. For me a backwards fedora with flamingos compliments me pretty well. It was 90 degrees outside when Katie and I shot, the summer makes it very hard to be goth, but I do what I can. Thinking of goth probz if I had a book I'd probably title it, "It's Hard to Be Goth in the Summer." Thanks again to Katie for taking these gnar shots! Can't believe the next time I'll be seeing her is during Thanksgiving hopefully! My nails are Orly Smart Gels in Haute Red. I'm on that gel nail lifestyle flow now.

Is it crazy that it's the middle of August already? I move into my dorm a week from now and I have practically rounded everything up I need to make my dorm "livable." Which means making it as personalized as possible. All around this summer has been way too good to me and I am sad to see it ending soon. On the other hand, like most fall lovers I am sick of wearing shorts and want to wear a coat again. Which is why I insist on wearing jeans all the time now. Last week my dear friend Katie from Bello Foto took some shots of me again =) We spent the afternoon thrift shopping while Katie sang me the Dream Girls Soundtrack (on key of course), we rated clothes based on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and I laughed at her silliness. We also grabbed some cheesecake and I ventured to try Dulce de Leche. Wasn't quite up my alley but hey I'm all for trying new things.
