Hello beautiful people! This past month's Sephora Play box was all about self-care before the holiday season. Well the holiday season came and went, but for me self-care is a daily/weekly thing. From lighting a candle, to buying a coffee, to making time to read 7 pages of a novel a night. I really did appreciate this month's Play Book with a section called, "In Defense of Staying in," with tips on the how to have a perfect night staying in. Nevertheless, this month's products were a good mix of hair, beauty, skincare, and fragrance. Fragrance is usually is my most missed item but it was a hit this month. Keep reading to hear this month's musings.

Hope you like the photos, I had a blast trying trends and pieces that I wouldn't normally wear. Its always fun to get out of my comfort zone and shake it up with these shoots. Photos by Ali Happer.

I swear it was Thanksgiving and I blinked and the holiday season began. We're a week away from Xmas, 8 days away from Kwanzaa, and the last day of Hanukkah approaches us tomorrow night. I am quite a fan of the holiday season, and it had crossed my mind to do a gift guide, but I wasn't sure where to start. There are usually so many gift guides done by bloggers and influencers I thought this year I might take a rain check. If you remember I did a huge, curated gift guide (and New Year's guide) with Halls last December. However, one of my best friends encouraged me to do a gift guide this year and I thought I'd share a little one with some of my top picks to gift for the holiday season below.

Jewelry and I have had a long, complicated relationship. It started in 6th grade visiting my grandparents in New York for the summer when I'd stumble upon loads of discounted Claires earrings at tiny shops in Queens. Although my bartering skills strengthened, I collected more Mary-Kate and Ashley jewelry than I'd like to admit. And over the years I collected more and more eclectic jewelry with a slight fixation on Hello Kitty jewelry.

When Alana Mitchell reached out to me to try some of her individualized skincare products I was psyched. My skin goes through stages of rebellion and maturity constantly. I always am trying new products for my normal skin but I specifically told Alana that I was looking for help on my hormonal acne, acne scars, and brighter skin.

Hi beautiful people! I'm back doing a what's in my bag/review on my 15' Classic Batchel in Leather from the Cambridge Satchel Company.

What's in My Batchel

November 17, 2017

Hi beautiful people! I'm back doing a what's in my bag/review on my 15' Classic Batchel in Leather from the Cambridge Satchel Company.
Hi friends! Another fashionably late Sephora Play review, but I also figured I'd get a chance to talk about my Beauty Insider Holiday Bonus picks.

September Sephora Play Review 2017

November 10, 2017

Hi friends! Another fashionably late Sephora Play review, but I also figured I'd get a chance to talk about my Beauty Insider Holiday Bonus picks.
2 years later and I'm finally talking about the Shade + Light Contour palette! It wasn't that this palette didn't appeal to me, it was just that I had already 3 Kat Von D eyeshadow palettes filling my beauty carousel, there wasn't really any room. I've always preferred a warmer bronzer look, but as the weather becomes cooler I crave a muted, toned down bronzer look. So when I found this palette at Marshalls for $20 I nearly cried, but I didn't realize how challenging this palette was or how challenging the art of contouring is. Thus the need for a blog demo, and probably a video...(Yes video to eventually come).

Where has October gone?! I can't believe we're more than halfway through the month and Starbucks holiday drinks will be taunting us in the next few weeks. Recently I became fixated on searching for a red dress. Something classic that could be worn multiple times especially with the cooler Kansas days ahead of us. I began an endless search for a red dress, but I couldn't help but wonder why I was so fixated on red.
Personally I feel like my power color is black, but where does that leave red? When it comes to painting my nails, applying eyeshadow, or putting on lipstick red is always my color of choice. It always makes me feel uplifted and motivated. Subconsciously I feel like being an Aries has always drawn me to red.

I've recently become obsessed with Jackie O's iconic style, especially her simple looks on her days off from being First Lady. She would wear plain shirtdresses and capris in solid shades. This dress is a mix of me taking a cue from Jackie's style book and my interest in red.
I still find that I'm constantly editing my closet and getting rid of pieces that don't bring me joy. I recently sold a Free People dress and put my earnings towards my new red dress fund. I actually found this dress on sale from Anthropologie for $14.96 in my size. It was exactly what I was looking for. This dress is perfect for the warmer October days and can transition to winter with layers like a turtleneck , tights, and a leopard coat. I'd love to find a quirky Kate Spade purse to go with this dress!
What do you think of my eye look? I'm never getting over the ABH Modern Renaissance palette, and using a color switch with it is such a game changer.
This H&M trench coat is one of my most favorite pieces in my wardrobe. I bought it in 11th grade, and started wearing it on repeat during my freshman year of college. It has really held up over the years. Maybe when it starts to fall apart I'll invest in a more luxurious trench.
I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their October. I can't believe its almost over. The weather has been so warm but its finally cooled down. I've been busy with grad school, getting a head start on my Christmas shopping, and I'm almost done with my 22 book reading challenge!

How do you wear red? Let me know in the comments below!

When I was visiting D.C. back in August I stopped by a Saks Off Fifth. I'm pretty sure I let out a gasp when I saw this Marchesa Notte embroidered short sleeve cocktail dress on the rack...in my size...75% off. I was dead. My love for Marchesa is endless. All of their designs speak to me without words transcending their sheer beauty and elegance. If I could go back to all the important moments in my now twenty something life that needed a dress I would've worn this one, but I have it now and that's what's important.

Hi friends! I'm back fashionably late with my Sephora Play review. Can you believe its been 2 years since I've been a Sephora Play subscriber? I still can't get over how I joined. I got an email while I was in Barbados and my cousin Kristi generously gave me her phone so I could feverishly type in my shipping and payment information. This subscription service has been a great experience and has helped me (almost) revive my VIB status, not sure whether that's good or bad considering I haven't been a VIB for almost 4 years. Nonetheless, let's dive in!

I've been thinking a lot about the topic of personal style lately and whether its really possible to define your style in one word. When I think of my style icons (best illustrated on my Pinterest board) I think of so many different women, but there's not necessarily anything they share in common. So I started asking my close friends and my parents about how they'd define my style and I got answers like bold, chic, creative, edgy, artsy, eclectic, timeless, and unusual.

When I interned at Anthropologie last summer there was this really great jumpsuit we had in store. It was navy, with an interesting diamond print, and a tiny cutout detail at the bust. Every so often it I'd walk by it and then have a silent debate with myself about whether this jumpsuit could be a feasible part of my wardrobe. Was it too Carrie Bradshaw? Not enough? The questions seemed endless.

And just when I wanted to cancel Sephora Play back in April they hook me back in. I can't even begin to exclaim my excitement when I saw the Kat Von D mini in my bag and a couple samples I enjoyed back from previous bags! My beauty routine has been in a rut lately so I've really been looking forward to these samples.

ModCloth has been apart of my life starting from those early days in middle school and high school where I was just starting to discover my own sense of style, to now where I have been trying to build a wardrobe of timeless pieces. I've always admired ModCloth's inclusiveness, having a style for every body, and their promotion of diversity.

Hi friends, can you believe its been five years since I started JMC? As I type away on my Mac that I originally started this blog on, I ponder about how much has changed and how incredible this journey has been. JMC started as my passion project, an outlet during my senior year of high school, and has become so much more, a digital space truly reflecting of me. Over the years I've got to share a huge part of my life with all of you and I am so thankful you've been here for me. I'm so overwhelmingly grateful for my followers, my friends, my family, my readers, my photographers, and everyone who has supported JMC.

Hi friends! I'm back on the blog talking about my beauty favorites captured by my friend Brenna from BMB Photography.

I'm always telling my friends, buy less and buy better. It's my moral for shopping in all aspects of my life and especially beauty. So these beauty favorites are more like beauty essentials that are close to my heart right now.
